'Other' as a gender on forum profile

Post by Inactive »

Since this thread got merged with the old one, I guess:

If you mean the gender field you should be able to choose the "-" instead of "male" or "female" :3

It isn't possible to choose "-", it always tells you gender is required to be filled out.
I agree that there should either be a neutral option, or that the gender-field shouldn't be a requirement so that it can be left as "-" if you don't wish to put info in.

Weird, I had it set to "-" until a few days ago. I filled out the location and interests thing before too (when set to "-") OwO

That's weird - it won't let me change things when I have "-" in the gender-field.

I'd support both adding a neutral option as well as making the gender-profile-field optional

Adding to the idea of 'other' as an option when stating your gender

Post by Dwagoon »

Making it completely optional to state what gender you identify as would also be a good way to implement this, if both of these were implemented.

Consider this a +1

+1 for me too. My preferred ID is female, even though I'm a tomboy, but there are some who'd rather not have to choose a gender. And there's nothing wrong with that.

As long as its not a bot spamming topics with business links or word salad novels of nonsense then it should be fine. :)

I agree this should be a thing. Only having two genders (and forcing it) is outdated.

Thanks for all the replies on this, I agree with what was said.
In general, just making it optional and not required would probably be easiest..!

I am going to state it as simplistically as possible so that there is an understanding of sorts from people who don't quite get it.
Being misgendered over and over again actually inflicts psychological damage. It is inappropriate to force a gender binary on people.

+1 from me.

I'm absolutely supporting this idea.
Apparently, in old VA it used to be that your character sprite on the Explore page would change based on your chosen gender, which somehow it doesn't do now. But IF this is brought back, would you like to be able to choose which sprite is displayed on the Explore page, regardless of your choice of gender?
Or are you comfortable with the male sprite for now?

I'm supporting "other" and "-" (or N/A) as an option. not only because people want to write down their proper pronouns but also because having nothing as an option is great if you don't want to let other people know it (Since some people are very anti having personal details online and/or don't want to risk the wrong people finding out what they identify as etc.)

I am not comfortable having to use the Lucas avatar on the Explore map.
