Greetings!

As you may have noticed recently, during the busy events, the Virtuadopt server doesn't really make it. Some of you experience heavy lag, which isn't a pleasant thing, especially when you try to achieve something. This is mostly caused by the server overload, which seems to be too weak for such amount of traffic.

Keeping Virtuadopt free is one of our aims. We want to avoid implementing functions like premium accounts, or selling promotional Virtuadopts for real currency. However, sometimes the costs need to be covered. The income from the ads sometimes doesn't even cover the actual server costs. And it definitely wouldn't cover the costs of the new server.

Our staff has been working hard to give you a place to spend your time on for the past time of almost two years.

If you enjoy spending your time on Virtuadopt, and would like to help, we ask for donations. It's nothing obligatory, we aren't making anyone pay - it's your choice whether you want to help us keep this place the way it is.

Complete cost of moving to a new server is around 350$. That's a lot of money for one person to cover. But, with more people wanting to help, it's doable.

With new server, we will receive more RAM, better bandwith, and more powerful CPU. It will also be located in Germany, which means better ping for all of the German users, who are the majority of this community. The server will also receive a professional configuration, assuring it will use 100% of its capabilities.


Any person donating at least 5$ will be moved to a new user group, "Donators", which will show that they are actively supporting Virtuadopt community.

Any person donating at least 10$ will get the above, plus custom member title (just like the moderators have right now), plus e-mail and/or alias in virtuadopt.com domain after the server transfer.

Please PM me after donating, with the e-mail you used for PayPal transaction, and the information if you want to be moved to Donators group, and your desired custom user rank.

None of this money will, of course, go to my pocket

I am a little bit confused. The new server's setup fee is 149 €. In order to move everything and so on you would of course have to run both servers at the same time for a month or so, so that makes another 49 € for one month of additional server fee.

That amounts to 198 € (approximately $250). So just out of interest: What are the remaining $100 for when you actually should only need 70 % of the donations?

I am still unsure whether we will get EQ-4, or EQ-6, but that's different story.

You count correctly. The server setup fee is 149€, the first month is 49€ - I am counting this in, because it may be safer to keep two hostings alive for a few days at least.

That indeed gives us around 260$, counting the currency spread and PayPal provisions, leaving us with circa $90.

As you may know, Hetzner provide you with basic server with LAMP. I am only a programmer, not dedicated server administrator - while I can perform basic configuration, it's far from the optimized setup. I don't know about the prices in Germany, but the price for professional server configuration here aren't low - I am speaking of complete configuration+optimization of database, webserver, tomcat and mail server - the estimation of that rounds around $60 (at least last time I was contacting a person, who configured the server previously). The rest is there for safety, just in case any other costs surface

If I wanted to earn money for myself, I would make a topic "Donations for stefanol's vacations"

KöniginDerNacht: of course you will be considered, though there won't be a specific need for donations then. Any extra money may go to monthly costs of hosting, in case the advertisements won't net enough profit... or any other future costs, if they appear.
